Pledge to Vote to Stop the Wars!
Petitioning: Congresswoman Anna Eshoo
Petitioner: Mountain View Voices for Peace started on July 10, 2011
Dear Congresswoman Eshoo:
After the 2008 election, many of us expected the U.S. to gradually disentangle itself from wars and other military actions abroad. Instead, we are embroiled in a growing number of conflicts, with no clear goals and no consistent application of principles. We are at war in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya, and U.S. forces routinely launch attacks elsewhere, including Pakistan and Yemen.
These wars are destructive. They continue to kill large numbers of people and drive many more from their homes. They kill and wound American fighting men and women. They are a drain on our economy and a major cause of our national debt and deficit. We are being taxed to pay for these wars, even where the U.S shifts combat operations to others, yet we do not have enough money to fund domestic priorities such as healthcare and schools. And there is no end in sight.
We call on you to exercise your constitutional authority and moral obligations by pledging to vote, whenever the opportunity arises, to end these wars.
It is unconscionable that we are at war in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya, with vast bases and occasional attacks elsewhere and at the same time cut education, healthcare and Social Security. I pay taxes to take care of our needs in the US. Please do everything you can to shift spending from these military fiascos to our needs at home.
Thank you
We are tired of war. Bring home the troops. Close bases. We should be investing in the U.S.A.

Only by diligent protest can we ever expect war on the planet to end. We don't seem to be able to get people into the streets anymore, so please accept this meager effort on my part. Please do your duty to your constituents, the majority of which feel our continual bellicosity as a nation diminishes us in the eyes of the world, our God, and our children's future.

like all empires we are on cruise control - continuing unthinking aggressive impoverishing overseas endeavors while we decline from within like so many empires before us - soviet, ottoman, british, french, spanish, roman, etc - it is unclear if we can break the cycle given our political polarization and impoverishment of our lower classes and disappearance of the middle class and ever increasing shift of wealth to the upper classes - of question is whether unfettered capitalism as we practice it can sustain us
you efforts on this larger question would be aqppreciated by our grandchildren

There is huge pressure on Congress to reduce spending - instead of using our tax money for the military we should be addressing our urgent domestic needs.
The list of engagements in the petition is not complete - we need to stop the policy that the US can and should intervene everywhere - it is wrong and we cannot afford it.
