SAVE OUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER !

THE NORTH EDINBURGH NEWS HAS BEEN A BIG PART OF THE NORTH EDINBURGH COMMUNITY FOR YEARS.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE HAVE A COMMUNITY NEWSPAPER.

IT REFLECTS WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE AREA , GIVES THE LOCAL COMMUNITY INFORMATION WHICH IT WOULD NOT NORMALLY HAVE ACCESS TO AND MORE IMPORTANTLY PROVIDES A FORUM FOR LOCAL PEOPLE TO RAISE ISSUES OF CONCERN.

IT IS CLEAR FROM READING THROUGH RECORDS THAT THE NEWSPAPER HAS REMAINED INDEPANDENT AND HAS ALWAYS TAKEN AN IMPARTIAL STAND ON THESE ISSUES.

THE NEWSPAPER HAS ALWAYS LET THE COMMUNITY KNOW ABOUT LOCAL CAMPAIGNS AND ISSUES , EVENTS , EMPLOYMENT FAIRS , SCHOOL ACTIVITIES , JOB AND EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES , YOUTH CLUBS , PENSIONERS GROUPS AND LOCAL ARTS. RIGHTS INFORMATION AND PROVIDES LOCAL RESIDENTS WITH WHATS HAPPENING FROM OUR LOCAL MPS.

The NEN is a locally owned and managed organisation which has charitable status and is also a company limited by guarantee. The NEN Board of Directors/Trustees is made up of people who live or work in the local area and give up their time to support the organisation without remuneration. The board currently consists of a mix of seven local residents and three local workers.

The aim is to produce a positive and informative community newspaper both in conjunction with, and for, the residents of North Edinburgh and also aim to provide a supported, safe and educational environment to ensure the development and advancement of staff, board, trainees and contributors throughout the life-span of the project.

NEN was previously funded through the North Edinburgh Community Regeneration Fund (CRF) and the Edinburgh Community Newspaper Trust (ECNT). ECNT is no longer in existence having lost financial support from City of Edinburgh Council at the beginning of the financial year.

NEN’s other source of funding from CRF has been replaced by the new Fairer Scotland Fund, managed by each of the city's Neighbourhood Partnerships, is currently under review due to a change in the funding criteria.
