Nominate a woman for the Supreme Court
Petitioning: President Barack Obama
Petitioner: Pat Reddemann started on May 9, 2009
President Obama,
You now have an opportunity to appoint a new Supreme Court Justice. Many of us voted for you hoping that you would have this opportunity, one that I'm sure you also thought about while running for office. It is a decision that will impact the future of our country and for that reason, I ask you to appoint a woman to the Supreme Court.
As a lawyer, a constitutional scholar and a community organizer, I'm sure that you understand the need to have diversity on the court. Woman have lost many protections in the last 8 republican years and are threatened to lose more if the court continues to move to the right and if we, as women, have only one representative on the court. Women make up more that half the population of this country and yet there is only one woman Supreme Court Justice. How can over 50% of the population be represented by only 11% of the court? As a president who believes in justice, this is your first opportunity to begin to correct this inequality. Nominate a woman to the court.
The voters of this country supported you, in part because you wanted to see change in our government, You have worked diligently to keep your promises and to bring change to Washington. The nomination of a new Supreme Court Justice is being watched by all who voted for you. We, the signers of this petition, want you to nominate a woman to the Supreme Court. Our country deserves another woman on the court. American women deserve another woman on the court. Red, White and Blue America deserves another woman on the court. And just as importantly, Malia and Sasha deserve a woman on the court. Nominate a woman to the court and work hard to have her confirmed!
