Of the 50 largest cities in Canada, Sault Ste. Marie is one of TWO that doesn't have a legal off leash dog park. (Saguenay, QC is the other one.)

The physical exercise and socialization that a dog park provides is extremely important to the health of dogs and their owners. Dogs that frequent off leash parks are less likely to be aggressive or to bark.

A dog park enables the elderly and disabled, who otherwise could not exercise their dogs properly, to enjoy the proven health benefits of pet ownership and escape the isolation that age and disability can bring.

Sign this petition now, and our group LOLDOGS (Legal Off Leash Dog Owner's Group of Sault Ste. Marie) will fight city hall for our dogs' basic rights to proper exercise and socialization, by creating Sault Ste. Marie's first off leash dog park.

I support this petition. When I visit my daughter in Burlington/Oakville area, they have a dog park that I use all the time. It is a fenced in area that is used by all sizes of dogs. Everyone must pick up after their own pet and the area is very clean. Socializing with other dogs and humans is a very important part of dog ownership and makes for a better pet. It is way past due ....SSM should pass the motion
