Exclusive government contract with Shoppers unfair to differently abled
Petitioning: A.D.P. contract with Shoppers Drug Mart for power tilt wheel chairs
Petitioner: Meghan started on August 22, 2010
The differently abled who are reliant on power tilt wheel chairs at one time could look to the competitive market and choose their vendor of choice for the supply and maintenance of their wheel chairs. However, due to exclusive rights offered to Shoppers Home Health by the government through the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) with respect to the purchase of power tilt wheel chairs and their service has resulted in a monopoly that has left the consumer (the differently abled) with no alternatives. The differently abled are held hostage by this system. This exclusive contract results in long waits and poor service for those in need. Lives are not only put on hold, but all those requiring a power tilt wheel chair are 100% dependent on it for movement and any quality of life. Our goal is to open up the competitive market and allow the differently abled the same rights to choose their vendor. Shoppers has not equipped themselves to properly service the clients. For example, loner wheel chairs are extremely limited and it often takes upwards of a week to receive a service call. Local alternatives cannot offer assistance for something as minor as a flat tire. These vendors have the products required but they are unable to aid the consumer due to the exclusive contract that has been granted to Shoppers by the government. Please help us by signing below to rescind this exclusive contract and thereby allowing the client choice of vendors and a better life.
