Josh Sonnenfeld is the Campaign Manager for Save The Bay – the largest regional organization working to protect and restore San Francisco Bay, now celebrating 50 years of activism. Save The Bay opposes Minnesota-based Cargill Inc, and their Arizona-based luxury home developer DMB Associates’ proposed development of 12,000 homes on 1,436 acres of restorable salt ponds in Redwood City. The San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, over 150 Bay Area elected officials, business leaders, and many neighboring towns have also spoken in opposition to this project.
Josh will give an overview of the proposed development and the reasons why it should not go forward, including the following: it will forever destroy these salt ponds that can and should be restored to vital wetland habitat, it puts homes in the path of rising sea levels, it will cause a traffic nightmare in an already congested area, and it brings us back to an era of filling the Bay like we haven’t seen in 50 years.
